Tach Fixer allows you to see engine speed on Subaru EJ engines so you don't have to modify your Vanagon Tach. It's small enough to mount in the Black Box or near your Subaru ECU.
Simple Wiring: Tach IN, Tach OUT, Switched 12v power, ground
For 1986+ Vanagons - Earlier tachs work directly with the Subaru Tach wire.

The flashing service eliminates the nuisance DiagnosticTrouble Codes (DTC's) that appear when doing a Subaru to Volkswagen engine swap (resolves many more DTC's than a hardware solution (For earlier years see: Code Killer). In order to have a functioning Check Engine Light it's helpful to only have serious trouble codes trigger an alert when something is actually wrong. You will be provided with the original and flashed backup files in case you ever need to replace your ECU in the future.
For this service please follow:
1. Confirm that you have a 2002+ Turbo or 2005*-2007 Subaru 2.5L. If you have compatibility questions, please email busaru@busaru.com
2. Print and include this form with ECU: Project Info Sheet
3. Ship ECU to us (shipping address is on the Project Info Sheet above)
You only need to send your ECM/ECU/Computer to us and we can reprogram, or flash, the ECM to eliminate these trouble codes. Typical timeframe is 1-2 days.
*NOTE: Occasionally there are some ECU from 2005/2006/2007 that we're unable to flash (We have had issues reading PN's: 22611AJ56x, 22611AJ55x, 22611AK74x, 22611AL21x, 22611AM31x). Also, this is solely a flash to remove DTC’s, not connecting to a dyno for a complete tune
See below for a DIY option.
The standard VSS uses a bracket designed for VW Bus, Vanagon, Bug* and other VW's. You can see a video here: https://youtu.be/JEtdtq4hWqk Just bolt up to the clutch cable stay, align with CV axle bolts (using the built-in LED as a pickup reference), and you're off and running.
VSS Install Instructions: Vehicle Speed Sensor Installation Comes with sensor and bracket. The bracket ships unpainted. Not used for speedometer purposes
*Bug/T1 VSS brackets need to be slightly bent to angle toward the CV bolt heads.
The Off-road/Swingaxle Transaxle version (eVSS) simulates a vehicle speed for applications where a Standard VSS is difficult to mount (Swingaxle Trans) or sensitive to mud and grime (sandrail, etc). It mounts near the computer and happily simulates a vehicle speed. eVSS Install Instructions: Vehicle Speed Sensor Installation

Troubleshooting, Initial Install help, parts recommendations, Design, DIY Conversion Coaching
If you need help with the entire process of the Subaru conversion, or just small details such as what wires are needed to keep around in your VW chassis, we offer coaching services to help. We can help you troubleshoot engine and electrical problems, instill confidence in your design and offer suggestions. Feel free to send me an email busaru@busaru.com and we can schedule a Phone/Skype/FaceTime call to sort through your problems. We can provide documentation, photos, and troubleshooting steps to help you get your conversion completed. Pricing is simple, billed in 1/2hr chunks.
For Bus/Bug - This Throttle Body Reverser (TBR) uses the tightest tubing possible and allows for clearance between the intake manifold and firewall on the VW Bus and VW Beetle. The factory Subaru throttle cable and bracket are used for an easy and clean installation.
Fits Naturally Aspirated EJ series throttle bodies. "Drive-By-Wire" intake manifolds are a very tight fit and require clearancing of the fuel tank firewall on bus, and parcel tray on bug (alternatively, you can rotate intake manifold 180*, but relocation of alternator will be necessary). DBW throttle body grounds through bolts so run a ground lead if powdercoating or painting mounting surfaces. Throttle Body modification is necessary on some models - see Youtube video for a quick tutorial here: https://youtu.be/E-vE1GxSZTM and here: https://youtu.be/Yz3PlI5HBHE It appears this modification is likely to not work well on turbo engines, as they are likely to be more sensitive to pressure differences.
These are designed to be used with the stock VW transmission. If using a SubaruGears trans in a Bug, the mounts lift the engine a couple inches, requiring clearance of parcel tray.
If you would like to double-check compatibility, touch to email your model, year, and engine size and I'd be happy to confirm. Years 98-01 SOHC 2.5L throttle bodies may need the ignition coil spaced up 1". Spacer seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3hDlCnO7lk Silicone gasket maker or throttle body gaskets can be used.
*NOTE: TBR's are powder coated black, no hardware or gaskets. If using a 90-94 throttle body, slight modification necessary on TBR (trim one side plate 1/4" to accommodate throttle position sensor.
**NOTE: "Drive-By-Wire" intake manifold to bulkhead are a very tight fit and require clearancing of the fuel tank firewall on bus, and parcel tray on bug (alternatively, you can rotate intake manifold 180*, which won't require a throttle body reverser, but will require relocation of alternator).
